Mountain Do Triathlon, Marion Virginia
Race 1 of the Mountain Empire Challenge
The race consisted of a 6 mile trail run, a 2 mile canoe, and a 12 mile
mountain bike.
The team consisted of Yakety Yak, Kai-Yak and me; Captain Yak. (Yak Daddy was
with us in spirit as his wife was running the Music City Half-Marathon!)
This was Kai-Yak's maiden voyage with the Yaks and she proved to be an
invaluable member of the team!!

The Yaks started the day with their "A-Game" on as they took off for the run.

The running and biking legs were on the lake trail at the Hungry mother State
park in Marion, Virginia. The park is beautiful and the trail was a nice
mixture of short steep uphills and long gradual downhills.

After the run, it was on to the canoe leg of the race. We went with all
three in the canoe. A BIG THANKS to by Yak Daddy who provided the
VERY comfortable canoe. It had a middle seat for Kai-Yak to perch and
paddle. (Doesn't she look happy after the canoeing leg!)

On to the biking! The biking was great and we enjoyed those long
downhills! (MUCH better than the shorter, and steeper, uphills!)
Team Retching Yaks came in FIRST in the Adventure division of the Mountain Do
Triathlon, first race in the Mountain Empire Challenge!

Now we are looking forward to the Flint Mill
Grind!
